“The Fourth Plinth Programme is a contemporary art prize in the UK. Funded by the Mayor of London and supported by Arts Council England, the programme invites world class artists to make astonishing new works for the centre of the capital city.

The British / Nigerian artist, Yinka Shonibare, created the ship in a bottle which measures 4.7 metres in length and 2.8 metres in diameter,

“Its a celebration of London’s immense ethnic wealth, with patterns on the sails were inspired by Britain’s colonial past.”

The art work now has a permanent position at London’s Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
