Hobart’s weekly market links perfectly with this week’s photo challenge – vibrant.
Salamanca Market is a vibrant place, always busy with visitors and locals wandering amongst three hundred stalls.
Many of the stalls sell products in vibrant colours, clothes, accessories, gifts, fruit and vegetables. The market highlights Tasmania’s arts, crafts and produce.
Entertainers amuse the crowds with music and fun for the kid’s. There are food and drink stalls with lots of choice for snacks and lunch.
The market is held every Saturday in Salamanca Place where sandstone buildings from the 1830 run parallel with plane trees and grass areas, just a few minutes from Hobart waterfront. The warehouses that once stored grain, wool, whale oil and imported goods are now cafes, galleries, restaurants and shops.
Salamanca is as vibrant area of the city all week, with or without the market.
I had a wonderful visit to Salamanca. Lots of vibrant nightlife, but unfortunately missed the market. Thanks for sharing

It is a special market. It’s to hard to browse and not buy anything.

I was in Salamanca a LONG time ago (approx. 1975/76) and spent the summer at the University learning about Spanish literature with people from all over Europe. It was like summer camp for older teenagers and young adults. I loved the university, one of the oldest in Europe, I believe, and the magnificent river and bridge where we gathered for sangria-inspired midnight singing 🙂
