Are these doors real or not?
Sheffield in Tasmania is now a thriving town known for it’s murals and annual mural festival that entices artists from home and abroad.
In the mid 1980’s the town was in decline. Residents elected to follow the example of a town in Canada and commissioned the painting of murals on it’s buildings depicting the local history. Fifty such murals are now a permanent part of the town. Here are a few of them.
The Mural Festival is taking place this week in a designated park, where the images remain on public display for twelve months, until the next festival. This was a view of the park a couple of weeks ago.
This is my contribution to Norm’s Thursday Doors series.
I really like it when a community can re-invent itself by doing something creative. These murals are so well done and I imagine it creates quite the draw of people!!

That certainly looks like a fun place to hang out and take pics. Some of those fake doors look very real at first glance.
Great post 🙂

Thanks Norm. The first 2 pics are real doors, then 2 fake doors. The 5th one is my favourite with a real door and lamp post, the mural is the boy peering in the window of an old radio room.

This is a great thing to show art like this. Amazing murals and it is hard to see if some of the doors are painted or real. Very interesting and fun post Ruth.

It’s worth a visit when in the North West of Tassie or on the way to Cradle Mountain.

I’ve only seen the bottom part of Tassie so much still to see.

The idea is wonderful, and the murals are delightful! I did a double take to make sure the guy in the Ticket Office door wasn’t real! 🙂
