T is for Tasmanian Tiger or Thylacine
I’ll let the following photos tell the story.
Photos taken at TMAG – Tasmania Museum and Art Gallery in Hobart.
The below link has detailed information about the Thylacine if you are interested.

As a footnote, the Tasmanian Devil is another unique carnivorous marsupial, which is currently endangered. Along with the Thylacine, the creatures were pushed to the brink of extinction in just a century of European settlement. The Devil has been protected since 1941 and active conservation is now in place.
Such interesting creatures. They really are an iconic part of Tassie aren’t they?

Yes, Miriam. Fascinating creatures and history. A “wake up call” to our and future generations.

Very sad stoy, and I really hope this won’t happend again with another animal. Thanks for sharing this, I don’t think I’ve heard about them before.

I guess extinction is a part of the Earth’s natural process but it seems difficult when it is due to Man’s intervention.

That’s so sad, I’ve never even heard of them before. Thanks for sharing, Ruth.

There are probably lots of “local” animals that we don’t hear about. And endangered animals is an ongoing situation.

Great post! Such a pit that man’s interference leaves devastation in it’s wake in the name of progress! 😦

This is interesting, thanks for sharing. I’d never heard of the tiger before. A marsupial carnivore with those stripes–what a combination! It’s too bad that they were wiped out.

They do seem to have been strange creatures.

Very interesting , had never heard that before, it is sad that us humans had to intervene! 😦 We appear to cause problems a lot! Glad the Taz is protected.

There are probably a number of animals that became extinct in recent history, that we don’t know about. I guess we are more aware of endangered species now.

So many animals have been made extinct only because humans found them inconvenient.
Thanks for sharing this story. I for one had never heard of the Tasmanian Tiger before.

I can’t believe there was such a thing as a “Tiger and Eagle Extermination Society”! Can you imagine something like that in this day and age?
I wonder if Jurassic Park will come true (to an extent) some day and we will be able to resurrect the Tasmanian Tiger from DNA? How cool would that be?

Very cool. But what animals would we choose? We struggle to keep all the current creatures secure now.
