Hobart is known for it’s winter fog that forms on the River Derwent and shrouds the river and suburbs in the early morning. It even has its own name, the “Bridgewater Jerry”.
This morning I woke to see a wall of fog rolling down river, blocking out the sunrise. We went out for a drive before breakfast, with camera in hand.
This is what we saw from Mount Nelson Signal Station.
I’ve never seen fog from quite that angle before -how beautiful. What a sunny day above the fog!

Thank you. I was like leaving a grey airport and flying about the clouds.

What a stunning day, the blue sky and the fog rising (it looks like sea doesn’t it?) ..thanks for the tour from my sofa….. to Hobart! I don’t think I have seen fog like that…except in a plane I guess.

Thanks Gerrie. The fog was moving fast and suddenly dissipated when it met the open sea.

What a lovely way to start the day! Kind of funny that it has it’s own name 🙂

The Valley often looks like this too as I drive to Hobart on a cold morning.

It was beautiful Joanne, much nicer than being below, in the midst of the fog.

Yes – but I also like fog …probably because we don’t get a lot of it where I am.
