Yesterday we went to a local Medieval Festival. The sun was shining. There were market stalls and food and drink stalls selling local produce. There was theatre and music, fancy dress, along with demonstrations of sword fighting, armed combat, Morris dancing, fire acrobats, horse riding. There was archery, face painting, dancing. A really good family day.
The most interesting aspect for us, was the “working trade alley”, where a potter, stonemason, wood turner and blacksmith were demonstrating their skills and products.
This seems to fit with this week’s photo challenge – transmogrify, transform, morph, change. These artisans were experts at transforming a block of stone, a ball of clay, a piece of metal or wood.
What fun! I was very impressed seeing the designs carved into stones by hand!!

Lovely to have these festivals … My grandfather was a blacksmith in Scotland … So I always look out for them demonstrating at fairs & festivals..

I also enjoy seeing these traditional skills in real life.

This was actually the first one, but hope they repeat it, as it was a big success.
