There is a new sculpture at Hobart Airport, featuring our native marsupial, the Tasmanian Devil.
It was fun “people watching” as I waited for a friend’s flight to arrive.
So many people were intrigued by the Devils, touched them as they walked past, stopped to take a photo.
Sat next to the one on a bench.
They are a lovely welcome to Tasmania.
Here is an earlier post about the Tasmanian Devils
they are gorgeous!

What a great sculpture of the Tassie devils…I think it is nice to have something unique to your area at the airport.

I had heard about this sculpture, looks great in the photos. Now I want to jump on a plane and visit Hobart just to see it for myself! 🙂

Hi, and thanks for the kind comments and lovely photographs. Just did a quick google search and they came up straight away. Thought you might be interested to know who created the sculpture. I should really put my name on it but the label I had before didn’t cast very well and was almost illegible. A modest plaque will be added soon as well as a bit of a guide for children to look out all for the little things that I’ve hidden that are not so obvious at first glance. There is a lizard, a frog and 6 little devil faces. Did you know I put Braille messages under their chins?
The Airport face book page has some lovely videos if you want to learn more about them. I will also be creating an instagram page to show the whole process – but I’m still working on that.
From one Ruth to another, I’m glad you like the work and thank you for showing your photos . Oh and do look out for more as they renovate the rest of the Airport.
Cheers,
Ruth

Hi Ruth. Thank you so much for commenting. I was at the airport again last week and noticed the two little devils wrapped up in clothes. I’ve just watched the Facebook page about the casting which was interesting. And the Braille messages. How original. I’m glad to hear that there will be more sculptures as the airport renovations progress. Best wishes. Hope to meet you one day at Salamanca Market, or a visit to your studio.
