The current British pound coin has the Royal Coat of Arms on one side.
All the other British coins can be arranged to depict the same coat of arms.
This pound coin will be withdrawn from circulation in October, as a new twelve sided coin was introduced last week.
I got one in my change almost immediately! It looks a bit fussy but they say it’s more secure.

Does this mean they have to change all the machines that take £1 coins? I have a load in my car for parking meters, it will be expensive to have to change all those by October!

Yes, they’ll all have to be adapted to accept it. I bet a lot of places haven’t even started! I think you can still exchange the old ones at a bank after October.

That’s my understanding too.

We left the UK last Thursday, so I haven’t seen one yet. Reminds me of the threepenny bit.

A bit, but its sides are not so pronounced.

I enjoyed seeing all those–quite different from what I use in U.S., of course. Your coins are lovelier by far.

Thankyou for your post. Its quite informative. Got some of these coins from my cousin who visited Britain a few years ago. I did wonder as to why these coins are having strange broken designs on them, but got the answer with your post. Being an amateur coin collector, I will be posting a few articles on numismatics soon. Feel free to read and comment. Kindest Regards from Bombay, India.

Infact I just don’t have 5 pence, 50 pence and 1 pound. But I am going to collect them soon. 😊
