Temporary flowers yet an everlasting symbol of remembrance.
Here are some poppies that I have seen this week, as we approach Remembrance Day, to mark the end of the First World War at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. “We will remember them”.
I love the first photo in particular, and it is very true that although flowers are temporary, the poppy immediately remind us of a collective memory of war.

The real poppy was at Government House gardens last sunday. A perfect time to bloom.

Very interesting tributes Ruth – hopefully most people will think of those who sacrificed for our freedoms rather than simply enjoy a day free from work!

In the UK it is not a holiday, although 2minutes silence at 11am on the 11th is having a resurgence. Here in Australia, a bigger remembrance day is in April, ANZAC day, which is a public holiday and is taken seriously. It is interesting how different countries commemorate and celebrate.

Lest we forget, Ruth. Went to a service at my old school yesterday. Never fail to be moved.
