I’ve been wondering what to write for this month when everything changed. The life we knew has been cancelled, our freedoms restricted, our everyday activities challenged.
There were so many ordinary yet pleasurable things that I had planned for March… evenings out at restaurants, theatre, cinema. Trips to our weekly farmers market and local craft markets, museums, the library.
There was a special trip planned, to be with our daughter as she gave birth to our granddaughter. But I’m in Hobart and she is in Sydney. We soon realised that I wouldn’t be able to make the trip so readjusted our plans. I walked up and down our lounge while on the phone with her in the birthing suite, sharing our breathing, positive words and vibes.
So, I have decided to concentrate on the positives, on gratitude and the simple joys.
Our granddaughter arrived safely four days ago, Mum and bub are doing well. I am so grateful for Facetime to keep in touch with family and friends. We can see her cuddled up, hear her unique little snuffles and snores. See her big brother being so gentle and amazed.
I am grateful that I live in Tasmania. We are an island and our government has taken strong, decisive actions to help keep us safe. This was front page on our Tassie newspaper.
Nature continues to share it’s wonders. Rain after such a dry summer, nurturing our trees, plants and crops.
I have paper daisy flowers from seeds I planted last year. Rocket and spinach continue to thrive in our balcony pots.
A rainbow appeared as I left for work one morning.
Dolphins played in our river Derwent as I got off the bus on way home. Such a joy to watch.
There are hints that autumn is here, as our days get shorter.
I am grateful to be part of this blog community. Stay safe friends.
Thanks for the positive outlook in your blog. Yes, nature has a lot to offer us at this difficult time. I love paper daisies. I remember them from my childhood. Take care my friend. Den xx

A lovely, positive post Ruth. Congratulations on the birth of your first? grandchild. Tasmania is doing a great job keeping isolated, I’m sure we will all come through this, it will just take time and everyone cooperating. Stay safe and keep gardening.

Beautiful, Ruth. I’ve been looking for the normalcy and beauty in nature to take my mind off our world turning upside down. Congratulations on your new grand-daughter! I think the rocket I’m growing is about the same size as yours. Stay safe and well!

Hi Ruth, lovely to see your post and congratulations on your second grandchild! I think your first grandchild was born quite close to my first grandchild, who was born in late August 2017. My daughter is pregnant with the second baby, who is due in September…here’s hoping the hospitals can cope with all this. We are all very excited about it anyway.
Always nice to see your lovely photos of Tasmania….imagine seeing dolphins playing in the bay as you walk home!

Hi Gerrie. Yes our first grandchildren were born same month. Congratulations to your family. Hope things have settled by September. I’m just happy that our daughter is home and all are safe in their family group. At least today’s restrictions still allow time outdoors for exercise. Take care.

So much to be grateful for, Ruth. Freedoms we didn’t even realise we had, until we lost them. I should have been going ‘back’ to see my son and family this week. Just so long as they stay safe. You too! 🙂 🙂

A lovely post Ruth focusing on the positives. Congratulations on the arrival of your little granddaughter – thank goodness for modern technology! We were in England when our 2nd granddaughter was born – she was nearly 4 weeks early and we were supposed to be home in time for her birth. We didn’t see her till she was nearly 3 weeks old but we have always been very close to her and her older sister (who I saw just after birth). It has been a roller coaster of a month when our way of life has been upended. We’ve been noticing how happy the birds seem however chirping everywhere and we have so many bees around our garden and suburb more so than usual. The leaves are starting to get their autumnal colours – my grapevine is turning from greens to yellows and russets. Plus have sorted out my pantry, we’ve had a delicious roast lunch and am now making chicken bone broth with the leftovers. We have also unexpectedly got our younger daughter back from London – uncertain times in Music PR and she’s going to sit things out here in Perth for a while. She’s currently self isolating upstairs with the cat for 14 days! Take care and stay safe xx

Thanks Ruth – yes so relieved she got back on Friday on one of the last Qantas non stop flights out of London. We chat to her at a safe distance in the garden – will be nice when her 2 week self isolation period is up and we can mingle again properly! Lucky to have a nice garden and hope we can carry on doing our walks for as long as possible! Tasmania sound be doing a good job so far of containing as much as one can. Stay safe in the meantime and take care 😃

Lovely to have a new baby in the family – our neighbours have one too – now the usual country sounds are added to by that wonderful new born cry – almost like the lambs bleating in the fields. Fabulous! Congratulations – and I hope it is not too long before you get to see her in person.
Seeing dolphins on the way to work must be so incredible. Are you still working though? Not confined to home?
