Later today, a very important visitor will arrive, to spend a week with us.

He is travelling more than one thousand kilometres, taking his first ever flight.

This visit has required some additional preparations, some specific equipment.

A travel cot and high chair have been borrowed, a baby car seat hired.

Supplies have been purchased, including a few small toys and books.

Our apartment is now “baby proof”, ornaments and books moved out of reach, our driftwood tree relegated to the communal hallway.

I had a Bunnykins plate, bowl, cup and saucer and egg cup, when I was a baby.IMG_9675

Our daughter had some of the items which had survived. We added to the set, a money box, a different bowl.IMG_9661

Now our grandson has the collection, plus a new mug.IMG_9686

I posted one of these pictures in my Photo a Day group and someone asked if the plate had the controversial trademark image?….. Oh!…… yes they all do, except the mug purchased this year.IMG_9678

A2Z Challenge

People are the backbone of blogging. It has been a joy to discover new people around the globe, make virtual friends, get to know people that I may never meet face to face.

Thank you all for following my ramblings, for the likes and comments and encouragement. Happy blogging everyone 🙂

Generally, I’m not comfortable taking photos of random people, strangers, but sometimes, I just have too!

New Phone, Old Phone

history

The iPhone is 10 years old today.

How much has its technology changed your life? It wasn’t the first smart phone but it paved the way.

We take this pocket size computer for granted. A camera, a clock, calendar, access to the internet, emails, messages, instant worldwide news, a global encyclopaedia, maps and street atlas, face to face real time conversations across the world, music and much more.

A lot has changed since phones looked like this, with the familiar dial 🙂

Birthday tree – 100 words

Our driftwood Christmas Tree has morphed into a birthday tree.

img_5545

Most of my adult life, I’ve taken Christmas decorations down on New Year’s Day. A real Christmas tree has started to drop, to look a bit sad. Christmas is over, lets reclaim the lounge, start afresh for a new year and make space for birthday cards.

This year, although I packed away other Christmas decorations, I am not yet ready to say goodbye to our tree.

So I’ve taken off the stars, the bells, the red and green decorations, and added more shells, paper umbrella’s and a few birthday cards.

Tiny footprints

After sunset, we heard an unusual bird noise outside. We took a torch out onto our balcony and saw a couple of penguins out on the grass.

There are numerous Fairy Penguin rookeries around the coast of Tasmania, but we didn’t realise they’d be such close neighbours.

We were too surprised to think of taking photos although we did call neighbours and had an impromptu penguin pyjama party.

We have been down to the beach in daylight and tried to identify footprints.

100% electric – in 100 words

Cars

The community transport organisation I work for is leasing an electric car.

100% electric, not a hybrid.

There’s an official launch day next month, but today staff had a preview.

I didn’t actually drive it but the Nissan Leaf is very comfortable in the back, very spacious. The dashboard is straight forward. The accessories of radio, media, GPS, seemed more complicated than the actual car controls. The silence does seem odd.

There is a charge point at work. One of about twenty in Tasmania.

Promoting an electric car here, is quite an innovative step.

100 word challenge – Tasman rock formations

Tasmania

This week’s 100 word challenge is … As time passes …

The tide rolls in with regular monotony.
The oceans move in an invisible synchronisation with the Earth, Moon and Sun.
The waves tumble onto sandy beaches.
The waves crash against cliffs.
As time passes, the solid rocks are gradually eroded.
Caves form at the base of the cliffs.
The water continues it’s bombardment of the ground, creating rock arches.
As time passes, parts of the cliff collapse.
Deep vertical chasms are carved into the contours of the coastline.
The ocean cascades into low caves that join with vertical shafts, forming blowholes.
As time passes the world evolves.

Photos from our day trip to Tasmania’s East Coast around Eaglehawk Neck.

April 2015 has been the month when we turned our lives upside down.

We moved from UK to Australia.
We sold a suburban house and rented a waterfront apartment.
Sold a car and bought a new one.
Closed utility accounts and opened new ones.
Notified medical, financial and everyone of our move.
Registered for medical, tax file references, transferred driving licence.
We’ve been frustrated with phone and media company in both countries.

After such a hectic month of practicalities and admin to move our lives, I now want a few weeks to be a tourist in my new home town.

100 word challenge – and so it begins

100 words, home, me

100 word challenge – this week’s prompt is … and so it begins.

100words

And so it begins … our countdown.

This time next week, we board a flight to Australia.

In these final seven days we will wind up our UK life, sell our car, pack suitcases, pack up the house, put belongings into storage, give away furniture, washing machine, garden equipment. We will undoubtedly visit the local tip.

We have already notified the utilities, advised change of address everywhere. We have cancelled store cards and online accounts. How many loyalty cards does one couple need?

We will clean the house, take meter readings, hand over keys, juggle finances. Then relax.

Sounds simple enough!
