inThis Sidney Nolan exhibition “The Ned Kelly Series” is currently at TMAG – Tasmanian Museum & Gallery – in Hobart.
The paintings are absorbing, depicting the story of the 19th century bush ranger and capturing varying Australian landscapes. I also found the visitors to the exhibition interesting.
I’m linking this to Deb’s “Six Word Saturday”.
I’m a couple of weeks behind but here is my silhouette contribution to Jude’s “Life in Colour”.

inThese bird silhouettes should be out in our garden, but while we decide where to put them, they are inside our lounge where we can see them every day.
This is my contribution to HeyJude’s “Life in Colour” for this month’s theme of black.

This is Hobart’s Salamanca Place, seen through a figure 8 on a sculpture trail. On Saturday’s Salamanca Market fills this space. An outdoor market with hundreds of stalls representing local crafts, designer, artisans and produce.
The sculpture 1833 marks the year when these sandstone warehouses were built on Hobart’s “new wharf”.
This is my contribution to Becky’s October Squares under the “circles and squares” theme.

inThe hotel hosted a challenge to create something from the meal bags. I made use of the metal lamp that was in my room. It was a perfect shape for my gum tree. The leaves moved in the air conditioning.
I enjoyed knitting these colourful cosy socks.
The only people I saw during the 14 days were nurses for a covid test on day 2 and day 12, then a doctor with police escort on day 13 who confirmed negative test result and gave me a letter authorising my check out on the final day. It was exciting getting the wristband which eased the check-out process.
Although it’s been mandatory, this quarantine has been a good experience, a retreat, time to reflect and recharge after a hectic and intense year.

“Action for Happiness” is posting some wonderful, positive, upbeat images. I’ve shared this with family and work colleagues. Copies are up on office walls and as screen savers.
Have you found any resources that are helping you stay optimistic?

inThe highlight of our month was a trip to Sydney to stay with our daughter, son-in-law and two year old grandson but also to visit “Sculpture by the Sea”. This was our first time at this annual art exhibition which began in 1997, along the coastal path and beaches between Bronte and Bondi. It was a lovely day out with art to interest each of us.
We had a couple of hours in the city before our flight home, where the jacaranda trees were beginning to flower.
This is my contribution to Su’s Changing Seasons post.

Recently, I noticed these delightful new benches made from recycled plastic. They are in Hobart’s Salamanca Place, with plastics obtained from the market held every Saturday.
The design of the benches replicates the sandstone warehouses built in the 1830’s.
It’s great to see thoughtful recycling.

inIt’s mid-winter here in Hobart. We’ve had more rain than usual and more snow on our mountain. However, we have been able to get out most weekends, a bush walk, a beach walk, to “Festival of Voices” events and a visit to the picturesque town of Richmond where I played with black and white photos of the historic bridge.
A partial lunar eclipse coincided with the 50th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11. I was fascinated by the various documentaries on the moon landing and the role that Australian telescopes at Honeysuckle Creek and at Parkes, played in relaying the tv pictures from the first moon walk.
I have finally completed a long overdue crochet project. Three and a half years ago I was given a kit with 75 different yarns, 3 patterns to follow plus a colour chart. I have worked it on and off but was determined to complete the scarf and wear it this winter. I added my own variation, stripes to compliment the squares, easier and quicker to crochet. I’m happy with the result and it’s been warm and cosy on these cold days.
As part of my Plastic free July Challenge, I attended a workshop to learn how to make my own beeswax wraps. It was much easier than I anticipated and we learnt two techniques. We used a recipe of Tasmanian beeswax, pine resin and jojoba oil. With our fabric on a sheet of baking paper we painted the hot mixture onto our fabric squares, then with a second sheet of baking paper on top, we ironed the fabric to spread the wax evenly. Peeled apart, the fabric soon set when held up in the air. The other method required a heated tray, or baking tray in the oven. The workshop was friendly, informative and relaxed and we each came away with four new wraps.
The days are drawing out and rather than getting home from work in the dark, I’m now capturing sunsets on my walk from the bus stop.
I’m linking this post to Su’s Changing Seasons Challenge.
