In the far corner of the Emu Valley Rhododendron Gardens, we sat and relaxed in this beautiful Chinese Pavilion.

The ceiling design was intriguing, changing from a circle to hexagon, to square, to octagon, with paintings of various rhododendron flowers.

A delightful find during our weekend beach walk. This star fish seems indecisive about its shape.

Totally inspired by the current Paralympians.

Remembering a fabulous day out at the London 2012 Paralympics. Can you spot the ball in the wheelchair basketball game.

There’s been snow on the mountain for a few weeks now. So yesterday, we drove to the summit to get up close.

Snow and ice clings to the bushes, a few days after the last snowfall.

We were in the clouds for some of the time but had glimpses of the view.

Snow brings out the inner child in everyone.

It was pure joy to be out in the snow. I’m submitting this post to Claudette’s weekly Emotography series.

High Tide

We have several favourite places within an hour’s drive of home. Eaglehawk Neck is one of them. Rugged coastline. Ocean beach.

Previously, when we’ve looked out at this view, we’ve counted the waves, trying to anticipate which one will put on a show.

On Saturday, we inadvertently arrived at high tide. Every wave crashed against the cliffs and rocks below, then rebounded to collide with the next incoming swell.

We were mesmerised. By the sound, the energy, the rhythm, the force of nature.

At the nearby blowhole, the ocean swirled around like a washing machine, the sound of crashing water a constant thunder.

beach, emotography, Hobart

It is a beautiful day here today
A perfect morning to get out for a walk
My local walk is along Nutgrove Beach to Long Beach

I walk beside the River Derwent estuary
In our Hobart suburb
Nestled below Mount Wellington

As I look behind me
“The Mountain” is topped by snow
My mind can not compute

For me,
A sandy beach is summer
Snow is winter

My conscious thought knows
That the seasons are back to front here
But the odd things still cause me to halt

Snow and sandy beach in the same photo?

Winter officially arrived yesterday but the past few days have seen overnight temperatures near zero and heavy frosts in the early morning.

Today, I allowed time to walk and take photos on my way to work. I felt invigorated.

This is my contribution to Claudette’s “Emotography” series.

Last weekend, Hobart hosted the Australian National Bonsai Convention.

These are a few of my favourites from the hundred plus exhibitions.

Some of these little trees are decades old. Such patience is required to create these natural wonders.

tree fern 1

There was a feeling of wonder going through my mind as I took these photos.

Wonder at the delicate structure of the leaves, at the rain drops clinging to the tips.
